PPKSD 1st@2nd day.

PPKSD= Program Pendedahan Kerjaya Seorang Doktor or in English: Exposure to a Doctor's Career Programme is a pragramme organised by the JPA(Jabatan Perkhidamatan Awam) for those who applied for the course of medicine in the JPA scholarship. It's main purpose is for the applicants to experience themselves firsthand  of being a doctor while at the samt time allowing us to evaluate whether or not being a doctor is suitable for us. I was placed in the Hospital Sultan Abdul Halim, Sungai Petani with quite a few of schoolmates(17 of them!!!). Couldn't believe there's so many Ibrahimians who wants to be doctors. It was during the briefing on the first day that I found out that the competition is superbly high.(55 students in my hospital alone, while there are around 000 applicants nationwide!!). Anyways, we were then grouped into 5 grops. Fortunately, I was in group 4 which has another 5 of my schoolmates.( Jason, When Yee, Eileen, Ravind, Zcho Huey) Our group's destination for the first day was the Forensics and Pathology. Suddenly everyone, especially Jason has goosebumps about seeing cadavers and stuffs. Luckily(NOT!!), there weren't any cadavers around except one new body which just came in from Hospital Pantai(previously known as the Strand Hospital). According to the Medical Assisstant, the feller is an old woman who passed on due to complications during surgery. Well, of course we did other things, but that would be the most interesting part of the first day(HOW BORING!!!).

On the second day, our group had to go to the orthopedics department. Everybody's mind was filled with images of bones sticking out of patients or stuffs like that(I know I know...we are sadistic, aren't we??). Imagine our disappointment when the worse case we could see was just a broken leg and stuff. DAMN!!! Anyways, we were then left to our own by the very very helpful(NOT!!) Sister Lim, the Head Nurse of the department as she had to go do rounds with the housemen. There we were, standing in the middle of the ward, doing nothing and all the doctors ignoring us(not to mention looking at us as if we were invisible!!). How embarrassed we were during that time!!! Zcho Huey embarrassed us even further when she actually asked a doctor to uh..talk to us but he said he was too busy to mind us(Well...she was brave, kudos to her for that!!) Then, somebody suggested that we go to the orthopedic clinic for a few minutes. Holy Cow!! We striked gold here!! We actually found ourselves looking at a case of gangrene(dead tissues in laymen terms) due to  diabetic wound. The nurse told us that the patient had quite severe diabetes to the point that he has very little feeling in his left leg. And there she was, cutting of the patient's dead tissues in his foot. Oh, did I mention that his foot was missing 3 toes?? His foot was cut open to the extent that we could see his healthy tissues(res) and his dead tissues(yellow, like your typical er...nanah) God, no words can describe that image...ask any of us, we shall remember it til the end of our lives!!!! Too bad we weren;t allowed to take photos( I doubt anyone would dare to even if allowed!!). And so, that would be the end of our second day.
