Well, today our group had to visit the A&E or also known as the Accidents and Emergency Department. What we had in mind before actually going there was that it would be as busy as anything, with bleeding, groaning patients here and there(if you watch ER or any TVB hospital drama, you will get my drift). Anyways, before we actually went into the A&E Department, we were given a looooooooooooooong lecture about the department by a certain Mr. Koe, the MA(Medical Assistant) for the department. I, for one, couldn't take it as I keep nodding off whenever and wherever there is a lecture(my close friends should be accustomed to this peculiar behavior of mine of mine by now...xD) Well, that boring part lasted for about 30 agonising, head-nodding minutes before we were actually brought to the place itself. Lo and behold, there it is, the famed place foe screams and tears in a hospital(again, watch ER!!!) How disappointed we were to see that the place was quite empty apart from the Medical Officers and the housemen there. Fortunately, we met this really really friendly Medical Officer, Dr. Kelvin(Ironic!!!xD) The moment he saw us in the A&E, he shouted in a friendly manner,"Out of hundreds of jobs in the world, you guys opt to be a doctor!!! If you want a life, don't be a doctor. If you want a wife, don't be a doctor. If you want to have a nice house and a nice car, don't be a doctor." What a nice reception for us er...future doctors!! He then jokingly added to his friend, " If I knew this was the life I was going to have 6,7 years ago, I would have gone for other jobs!!" Stunned to the core, we then asked him about his views about being a doctor. He then stressed that life as a doctor is mainly a very stressful thing to do, what with the responsibilities and the fact that politics play a very important part in the management of the hospital(now now...this I really can't elaborate...very sensitive issue here....xD) He was being a very truthful doc and I really respected him for it.(I couldn't help comparing him with the OTHER Kelvin that I know, whom right now, is actually studying to be a doctor...xD)
So, that was basically what we did for the day.(Well, we did see a few patients, but they are just so not worth mentioning) So, for those of you out there who actually wants to be a doctor, think and think and think before you actually commit yourself to it as this career would last for the rest of your life!!...or until you resign one day...xD
